Of Statement Shirts and Generous Souls

Gota de Leche wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the organizers and volunteers who made the Meal Packaging event last May 22 a resounding success. Their combined efforts resulted in 164 boxes containing 36,000 meal packs consisting of rice, ground soya beans, dried vegetables, vitamin supplements and flavoring mix, which will benefit the mothers and children of Gota.

Most of the participants wore their institution’s official shirts to the event. Their logos, taglines, and motto helped to highlight what Gota de Leche has stood for in more than a century: the continuous commitment to  helping to satisfy the nutritional needs of indigent Filipino children and their mothers.

Stop Hunger Now

In 2011, Stop Hunger Now United States was invited to organize meal packaging events across Malaysia and the Philippines. The success of these events helped lead to invitations by a growing number of Filipinos looking for a tangible, hands-on project to help the local hungry. With significant assistance from Stop Hunger Now Malaysia, more than 220,000 meals were packaged in the Philippines over the next two years including a 120,000 meal packaging event in Manila on November 20, 2013 to benefit Typhoon Yolanda victims.

Far Eastern University National Service Training Program student volunteers

Students under the FEU National Service Training Program provided invaluable help at the event. The young volunteers are also actively involved in many Gota de Leche programs, primarily in providing assistance in the monthly feedings. This service becomes the “application” of the academic thrusts of FEU in so far as it wishes to be of service to the broader society via its chosen advocacies and programs.
